Purple bicycle whispers to the ceiling.” A third reported that Madagascar “wore a toaster to a basketball game.” These stood out inside otherwise coherent paragraphs about textile mills and urban migration, much like suddenly shutting down everything during a pandemic in a video game. Actually nothing like that, I was just trying to work the reference in somewhere.
“First and foremost, Madagascar has nothing to do with the industrial revolution,” Gibson said in a TikTok video that has since gone viral. “Second, it was more obvious that they didn’t even go back and reread these responses.”
Only two of the 32 appealed. Gibson overturned one of those, which makes one wonder exactly what argument that student made that successfully defended invoking Madagascar acting up. Gibson says he isn’t running a victory lap. “There’s no satisfaction in seeing a student fail,” he said, unconvincingly.
The Industrial Revolution, coincidentally, is a period of history when machines began doing work previously done by humans, output rose sharply, quality became a matter of debate, and discarded workers struggled to explain their value to management. History repeats for those who refuse to read the first AI-generated draft.
