The Great American State Fair was supposed to celebrate the nation’s 250th birthday with sixteen days of patriotic festivities on Washington’s National Mall. Instead, it has become the latest in a long line of metaphors for the utter incompetence of the Trump Administration.

Organizers promised family attractions, entertainment, and exhibits from every state. Visitors instead discovered a Ferris wheel, a plywood-encrusted “Triumph Arch” made mostly of duct tape, enough empty folding chairs to host an emergency FEMA briefing, and walkways so empty that historians briefly mistook them for a reenactment of the pandemic.
The festivities got off to an awkward start after several scheduled performers reportedly withdrew, leaving President Trump to headline opening night himself. Trump later declared on Truth Social that roughly 45,000 people had packed the event. Independent photographs, meanwhile, suggested the crowd size was much closer to “non-existent.”
Some attractions proved especially tranquil. Christian musician Jason Hershey performed beneath a tent for what appeared to be two homeless people who accidentally wandered in and were hoping he had a couple of spare cigarettes. It was the sort of intimate acoustic experience usually marketed as a premium VIP package, except no one has ever heard of this Jason Hershey guy or his AI songwriting companion specializing in Nickelback-rippoff songs that sound exactly like grooming but legally aren’t because the word Jesus appears in the lyrics.
Every state received an exhibit space, though Maine’s booth reportedly consisted largely of empty chairs after the state declined to participate. Or perhaps this was Maine’s actual exhibit. Hard to say. Power interruptions temporarily sidelined the Ferris wheel, reminding attendees of the importance of celebrating America’s ongoing independence from reliability and basic living standards during the Trump administration.

Still, every fair needs a surprise hit. In this case, a cow named Melania quickly became one of the event’s most talked-about attractions after her handler explained the cow’s coloring resembled the First Lady’s hair. His cell in Guantanamo is currently being prepared for him and his family, all of whom will never be seen again.
Freedom 250 officials remain optimistic attendance will increase before the celebration concludes. However, as a precaution, the National Park Service has reportedly begun to erect a barrier around it in preparation for charging attendees with being Antifa terrorists, as is tradition.
