Wait ‘Til You Hear This: Deaf Woman Says She Was Kicked off Flight for “Not Listening”

Because on Frontier Airlines, logic, like checked baggage, comes at a premium.

Disclaimer: This article is based on actual news from the real world – honestly! However, it has been sprinkled with a healthy dose of satire.

After all, it's Frontier, not FrontEar. (mariar12/depositphotos)

A deaf woman accused Frontier Airlines of kicking her off a flight for not listening to an attendant’s instructions. Which is a little like someone with a pacemaker getting kicked off a flight for refusing to turn off all their electronic devices.

The passenger, named Ashley, shared her story in a now-viral TikTok under the username “legallyswiftie13.” A username that dispels any lingering doubt that she is actually deaf.

@legallyswiftie13

I was removed from a flight because I am deaf. When I went to rebook, the gate agents apologized for the flight attendant’s behavior. @Frontier Airlines please train your flight attendants on disability accommodations, specifically when somebody is deaf/hard of hearing.  #deaf #disability #discriminationawareness

The video captured the aftermath of the initial altercation. Cabin crew members confronted an emotional Ashley, who described the incident as “discrimination” and explained that the disability was noted on her ticket. Fellow passengers even came to Ashley’s defense, which says a lot about the situation, considering the airline’s official slogan might as well be “Frontier: Every Man For Himself.”

Meanwhile, the deaf-defying company asserts that Ashley was booted off the flight due to an entirely different type of impairment. In a statement, Frontier Airlines claimed, “the passenger boarded with an open container which she admitted contained alcohol when questioned. Bringing an open container of alcohol on board violates both Frontier policy and federal law.”

In other words, according to Frontier, Ashley was kicked off the flight not because she was deaf, but because she walked onto the plane while enjoying a drink as hard as her hearing.

The airline went on to allege that, when confronted by a flight attendant over the illicit beverage, Ashley positioned her booze in the upright position and “rapidly consumed the remaining alcohol in the cup before handing it over,” presumably, as chants of “Chug! chug! chug!” reverberated throughout the cabin.

Ashley had a very different recollection of what happened. To be fair, someone who has thrown a couple back usually does. However, she contended that, after de-boarding the aircraft and returning to the gate, agents even apologized to her. She called on Frontier Airlines to “please train your flight attendants on disability accommodations, specifically when somebody is deaf/hard of hearing.” It’s a request that boldly assumes Frontier Airlines crew members, or pilots for that matter, undergo any formal training whatsoever.
