- Irish energy developer Astatine plans to introduce 300,000 native honeybees to its solar farm in County Mayo, Ireland, where 32,000 solar panels already supply electricity to the Ballina Beverage Company.
- The project is meant to do double duty: cut pollution through solar power while also turning the site into a biodiversity hub with beehives, wildflowers, and other pollinator-friendly features.
- According to the report, the solar farm prevents more than 8,800 tons of air pollution each year and generates enough electricity to cover the equivalent of about 1,150 homes annually.
- Company leaders say the beehive program has been well received and could expand to other project sites nationwide, framing it as a model for renewable energy projects that support both climate goals and local ecosystems.
